Cobra Girl by Vicky Morgan.
It seems that you can't move for tattoos in 2013: what was once an underground art form has firmly placed itself centre stage, and nowadays who you choose to permanently ink your skin is as important as your choice of image – which is where the new breed of tattoo artists come into their own. For their first exhibition of original artwork Atomica Gallery has partnered with Things & Ink, the premiere magazine embracing female tattoo culture. Celebrating the magazine’s first anniversary and launch of the new issue The Art Issue, Under Her Skin is curated by Things & Ink and will include work from twelve female tattoo artists who have featured in the magazine’s pages over the past year. You are invited to the opening party on Thursday 12th Sept, 6-9pm, sponsored by The Kraken Black Spiced Rum.
Artwork by Angelique Houtkamp.
Founded by journalist and tattoo enthusiast Alice Snape in 2012, Things&Ink magazine reflects on tattoo culture from a feminine perspective. Differing from traditional, often male-dominated tattoo media, the publication is both beautiful and thought-provoking and has fast become a collector’s item. Under Her Skin will be exhibited during the London International Tattoo Convention 2013, which is being held at the Tobacco Dock in east London 27-29th September.
