Collage combined with photography continues to be a popular theme at the graduate shows this year, perhaps because in these digitised and heavily recorded times it is such an interesting way to reconstruct our view of reality. This fabulous exhibition at Underground Gallery is only on for a short time so if you, like me, are a fan of this technique, why not get along and check it out? This body of work has been curated by Toronto based Andrea Leigh Pelletier of Laid Bare: Curations and Other Concerns and features work by three artists: Ben Giles, Michelle O'Byrne and Jackson Klie.

'Disruptions & Creations is an exhibition of appropriated imagery and collage that explores the frailty of visual representation. Using simple cuts, rips and paint smears the three artists transform the surface of the image whilst simultaneously leaving evidence of its original form. This building tension is further emphasized by inherently nostalgic qualities of the source material itself. Drawing on dated advertisements, illustrated books and magazine articles the artists purposefully select iconic imagery that resonate firmly with the audience, yet appear obscured, fractured and recontextualized. The new contexts begin to form an array of diverse meanings and associations within the images, highlighting the fluid nature of visual media.'
