During the days of Amelia's Magazine in print I frequently worked with Andrew Macgregor when I needed some interesting 3D set design ideas, and in the years since paper has become his material of choice. His upcoming exhibition at The Book Club will be his second paper craft showcase within just a few months in the Shoreditch area (his previous being HARK with Audrey Roger with JaguarShoes Collective), themed around and taking place during the London 2012 Olympics.

These images show some of the work in progress which will shortly be transforming the ground floor bar. The colourful handcrafted installations – inspired by the iconic visual language of vintage Olympic posters – will be wall mounted and ceiling hung to creating a real sense of energy and drama. This is the first time The Book Club has worked with such a large scale 3D artist.

For this particular project Andrew Macgregor has drawn influence from artists such as Peter Blake who is most famously known for the sleeve he created for the Beatles album, Sgt. Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band. Dabbling in pop art, his creations were often vivid and eccentric. As well as Blake, Macgregor has looked to Herbert Bayer’s art, which spanned many forms and he was considered to be the last living member of the Bauhaus art movement. Make sure you visit The Book Club as Olympic fever takes a hold of London, and if you want to know more about the Bauhaus movement make sure you visit the Barbican's exhibition soon.
