Zoe Barker is really quite wonderful. Not only is she a simply marvellous illustrator and contributor to our website, but she also works in the loveliest bike shop in Londinium, and her beautiful work adorns both the real and virtual walls of Bobbin Bicycles.

She's clearly a lady with a conscience, so it's thus really not that surprising to find that this exhibition (in collaboration with photographer Jonathan Cherry) focuses on how we engage with environment to find a sense of community. “Its aim is to look at the bigger picture by focussing in on an area/place where we have once experienced a sensation of ‘home’, and how it feels to return. We are interested in how technological and cultural advances are affecting the rural areas of England, and what it is that unites people in smaller towns and villages when the idea of the ‘local’ is fading.”

The illustrations first appeared in the The Creative Review Illustration Annual a couple of months back, but this is an excellent chance to admire them in the flesh. “I am interested in how a fast paced mentality, modern thinking and quick efficiency translate onto a slow-paced, sleepy little market town and the identity it represents.” Food for thought that many can relate to. I'm sure.
