Galyna Moskvitina’s works open up an unusual window to the soul, and entering the light-filled glass-walled space of Hay Hill Gallery for The Heart of the Matter is like stepping into a strange world existing parallel to ours. This is an eye-opening show that illuminates anxious feelings of being at odds with ourselves and our surroundings, offering a shimmering glimpse of wholeness, reminding us of something other that is already deeply known by our innermost selves.

As one of the most popular graphic artists in the Ukraine, Galyna Moskvitina was the first to illustrate Bulgakov's literary masterpiece The Master and Margarita – and perhaps his magical realism was an inspiration for these latest works. Her theory of Laternative Realism derives its name from ‘lantern’ and ‘nature’, and although the works seem abstract or ethereal there is a deeper meaning- that only by becoming present will we unlock our full potential. The concept of time is encoded within the ‘Sparkle Series’; behind the glittering jewels, snowflake prisms, cracked ice and smashed glass, each work is named according to the time of day that the viewer will experience full impact.
