Amelia’s Magazine | Sisi King

Sisi graduated from the School of Oriental and African Studies in 2008. Courses as diverse as learning the Zimbabwean Mbira to examining the implications of intellectual property legislation on African cultural heritage imparted a strong grounding in a wide range of issues concerning sub-Saharan Africa. On completing several projects with leading NGO’s she became increasingly aware of the need for more positive media coverage both within and outside the continent. While in Cape Town Sisi began to contemplate the role fashion could play in portraying this after observing the rise of a new wave of African designers who combined traditional heritage with international marketability. Pursuing this idea she returned to Cape Town for further study in Business Management and Trend Forecasting.  While completing her courses Sisi continues to write about her long-standing interests in sustainable fashion and African design. It is her firm belief that social responsibility and the environmental can be at the heart of cutting edge fashion.
