Ohh Deer

Falling in love is a funny thing. Nearly always unexpected and usually inconvenient, it is all-encompassing and painful; beautiful despite all this, or maybe even because of it. Last year I fell in love. I was sitting on the floor of the living room and my face was aglow with the incandescent light from my laptop. I can’t remember exactly where on the internet I was, I’m usually lost somewhere in the Artisans Sector, unsure if I belong there or not and wandering from link to link aimlessly. One minute I was watching videos of cats on Youtube and the next I was on a website called “OhhDeer.com” the words were familiar, but misspelled in the trendy, phonetic fashion of art students as of late. And that’s when my heart skipped a beat.

It is rare to find a brand that you call relate to. A shop that not only makes stuff that you want to wear, write in, have on your sofa, send to friends and generally surround yourself with, but that is also run by the kind of people you'd like to hang around with yourself. A shop that takes risks and asks its customers what they want. A company that is fuelled by the sheer thrill of what they do. Ohh Deer is a business that shares a love of illustration and doodles, a passion for HB pencils and Poscas, a penchant for paint and charcoal. I want everything they sell; the desire for it flows right through me, a stronger ache than my longing for Oreo’s. I follow them on Facebook, email them with customer service queries when I don’t really need anything; the whole shebang. Basically, I’m their stalker. If you haven’t heard of them yet and think they might be your soulmate too, then you can read my interview with the Co-Founder Jamie Mitchell here.

Ohh Deer

Illustration collective Ohh Deer (aka my one true love) have partnered up with independent stores Wolf & Badger to bring you an action-packed pop-up shop. Needless to say, there will be all sorts of illustrated goodies on sale including a selection of homeware, stationery and the usual unusuals. There will be work on display by all the familiar Ohh Deer faces that you know and love including Jack Teagle, Mark Callaby, Jamie Mitchell, Gemma Correll and Kris Tate. They’ll also be running various workshops during the course of the pop-up, and the results will be displayed on a website designed especially for this collaboration. This means that if you take part, you’ll get your work some epic exposure. And if you're not satisfied with this, they're also running their Open Season: Spring competition up until July 5th. This gives you the chance to get your designs seen as well as having them sold through their competition shop.

To give you a little something extra to get your teeth into during the pop-up, Ohh Deer is running a whole range of workshops too. So once you’ve shopped ‘til you’ve dropped, you can get your creative juices flowing alongside this bunch of professional creatives. Meet the collective, get involved, and pick up something beautiful.

23rd June, 12pm – 2pm, Collage workshop with Kris Tate
27th June, 12pm – 2pm, Panel comics workshop with Gemma Correll
29th June, 12pm – 2pm, Clay workshop with Yas-Ming Ceramics
2nd July, 12pm – 3pm, Workshop with Drew Turner

You can see why this would get my pulse racing. I can meet them in person. Maybe we’ll be friends. Perhaps one of them is single?

If you love illustration then pop by the Ohh Deer pop-up launch on the 20th June, between 6pm-9pm. They'll also be there (waiting to help you make your life a little more beautiful) between the 21st June and 4th July at Wolf & Badger, 32 Dover Street, London, W1S 4NE. Be there or be hexagonal.
