Inimitable skull artist Lauren Baker is hosting a skull art workshop at Tate Modern as part of Oxymoron, an evening of music, art and artist-led workshops led by the Tate Collectives and inspired by the current Damien Hirst exhibition.

Lauren Baker’s bizarre, yet strangely beautiful collection of skull art includes lavishly adorned deer skulls and dramatically embellished human skulls. Participants of the ‘Living Dead’ workshop will paint and embellish 3D human cast skulls, which will become part of a Tate Collectives online art exhibition. We introduced Lauren Baker a couple of months back, and since then she has continued to wow the arts world with her reinvention of the ancient arts of mosaic and gilding. Her skull art is even rumored to be featured George Michael’s latest music video – released later this summer.

Her creations include ethically sourced deer skulls that are gilded in gold leaf and embellished with beads and mosaics; and – not for the faint hearted – dramatic human skulls, brightly embellished, and inspired by the Mexican Day of the Dead.
