For the month of November, Transition Gallery presents Katherine Tulloh's Hermetickal, a solo exhibition of new watercolours and an animated film. For Hermetickal, Tulloh explores both alchemical illustrations and the dream journals of Swedish Natural Scientist Emanuel Swedenborg.
Previously Tulloh's breathtaking watercolours and experimental films visualised the literary landscapes of Poe and Baudelaire. For Hermetickal, the artist researched the writing produced by Swedenborg after his breakdown in 1744, which saw the Natural Scientist develop an obsession with Heaven's structure and hold conversations with angels. Maintaining the academic rigor of his earlier training, Swedenborg's notes merge with those of alchemical engravings, where the highly secretive research was disguised within hieroglyphics.
Visualising the Scientist's personal mythology created in the fallout of his breakdown, Tulloh's new film and watercolours explore the tense relationship between science and faith to produce a stunning interpretation of Swedenborg's dream journals.
Transition Gallery is open Friday to Sunday from 12pm to 6pm and is located at: Unit 25a Regent Studios
