If you're the kind of festivalgoer who makes a beeline for the comedy tent and the storytelling field, it might just be time to give up the music festival ghost and immerse yourself in the arts proper.

The Hay Festival of Literature and the Arts – which kicks off tomorrow in the Brecon Beacons National Park and runs throughout next week (they've got stamina, these arts folk) – features discussions from the likes of Bill Bryson, Don McCullin and Rosie Boycott; a programme of environmental debates and events covering everything from food production and climate change to group river walks; The Hay Fever festival for kids and young people; and a series of film screenings, theatrical performances and musical acts.

For more info and to book tickets, visit the Hay Festival website.
