BP & Tar Sands: Climate Crime 10 April 10, 13:00 – 18:00
Oxford Circus, then moving on to the final destination
This Saturday London Rising Tide and the London Tar Sands network (with a little support from Climate Camp) are hosting a PARTY AT THE PUMPS as part of the BP Fortnight of Shame. This should be an old school rave protest (think Reclaim the Streets demos of the 1990s) with a twist, so expect sound systems, a ceilidh and lots of dancing. Grab your friends, a zone 1-2 travel card, and anything that makes a noise. Activists will be meeting at Oxford Circus at 1pm this Saturday 10th April and moving off to an unknown destination en masse.
And why should you want to join in? The reasons are multiple: tar sands – as detailed on numerous occasions on this website – are destined to be the biggest single environmental disaster this planet has ever known, both in terms of contributing to climate change and the genocide of native peoples their extraction leaves in its wake. BP recently made the decision to invest in the Canadian tar sands, but thought that no one had noticed thanks to their tried and trusted “Silent Running” technique (no, this is not something out of a sci-fi film, it's actually a military tactic used to describe a stealthy maneuver.) And guess who the biggest investors in these tar sands are outside of the US? Why, only the UK tax payers.
So we're going to be holding our own party on Saturday to say that the party is very definitely over for BP: if they think they can get away with these shameful tactics without anyone noticing they've got another think coming – come make your voice heard, and stop the biggest climate crime of the new millenium!
