The World, His Wife and Her Lover – Lupen Crook.
LUPEN CROOK
Lupen Crook is a visual artist, songwriter and DIY enthusiast. Crook's creative output has continued to perplex and delight audiences since NME first tipped him for the top in 2005. Described as a 'classic british eccentric' and recently likened to a 'British Nick Cave' by The Big Issue, his uncompromising art-driven approach, including a prolific release of music (many albums including 2012's 'British Folk Tales' appear as hand-crafted editions) have given way a growing cult following. Read my recent interview with Lupen Crook here. Alongside Crook's musical offerings, his work as a visual artist have been exhibited in London and the South East since 2009, with independent sales in Europe and UK. His 'Broken Arts' present real life scenes as well as the imagined, with traditional oils paints used alongside jigsaw puzzle pieces, discarded newspapers, cigarette butts and bad pennies, amongst other everyday treasures. Lupen Crook will showcase a new and unseen body of work at this forthcoming exhibition.
Salome – Joni Belaruski.
JONI BELARUSKI
Joni Belaruski is from the North-West coast of Ireland. A self-taught artist and musician, upon landing in the North-East underbelly of London she has embraced the alternative cabaret and underground music scenes, forming gypsy punk outfit The Great Malarkey. As an artist she has exhibited across London since 2010, showcasing her work in a variety of independent galleries. Joni’s distinctive illustrations draw inspiration from the colourful characters of these underground environments, as well dealing with explorations of the human psyche – surreal dreamlike compositions evoking images of orgies and animalistic instincts. Joni will be showing a new collection of drawings with the same dark and decadent edge, drawing inspiration from myth and fiction… a savage reality where human and animal are indistinguishable from chimeras and monsters of the mind
A Private View of the work takes place on Thursday 10th January. Starting at 7pm, in addition to the artwork on show there will be a nights entertainment including DJ's, live music, food and drinks for everyone's enjoyment. Both artists will be in attendance.
